Power Flushing by A&A Plumbing Services

Does your central heating system suffer from any of the following problems ?

  • The central heating system takes a long time to warm up
  • Some radiators are partially or completely cold
  • The radiators require regular bleeding
  • Water in radiators is discoloured and dirty
  • Radiators have perforations and leakages
  • The boiler makes a noise like a kettle boiling
  • Having to replace your heating pump on a regular basis
  • The header tank water is warm/hot and sludged up
  • Looks like your heating system would benefit from a power flush

A Dirty system reduces the life span of your boiler and leads to higher energy costs

A power flush is the process of cleaning out a central heating system by circulating high volumes of (forced) water and cleaning agents around a heating system to remove debris, rust etc.

You may need a power flush if you have cold spots in your radiators, or your radiators are cold at the bottom and warm at the top. Sometimes one radiator in your system may not be working at all and this is a sign that a flush may help.

If you have a lot of sludge in the feed and expansion tank or the heating system is very slow to warm up these are both indicators that a system clean is required. Another indicator of the need for a power flush is if your thermostatic radiator valves are stuck in the off position.

Before powerflushing, it is important to be aware:

Whilst these occurrences are very rare, customers need to be aware that:
A power flush is an extremely effective way of cleaning your heating system but a power flush will not clear a total choke in the system, nor will it sort any piping issues you may have.

Whilst it is rare, sometimes during power flushing a leak may appear on the system, this leak would have shown any way in time but the power flush could bring the issue to light when it is cleaning out all the sludge and corrosion from your system.

The power flush will not sort out any radiators that may have permanent damage from corrosion. Systems that have been neglected over a period of time or have not been treated with effective corrosion inhibitor may have seriously compacted corrosion debris and it may be possible that even after a power flush some radiators/boilers may still not be 100% effective.
